Classifieds - Safe Trading Tips

To help you avoid being tricked by a scam or fraud, here are some tips that may assist you when looking to buy or sell your bicycle and or parts and accessories.

Pick up your item where possible:

Deal with people within your local area. Ask them if they can organise the time for you to check, pick up the item and pay them. When picking up an item, it is a good idea to use either a Bank Cheque or an Australia Post Money Order.

If you can't pick up your item:

We recommend using an escrow service. Escrows are self-governing third-parties that take a small fee to make sure the transaction goes smoothly. Sellers are guaranteed to get paid, and buyers are guaranteed to get the goods promised, or the escrow reverses the transaction. It is advisable to use an escrow service when dealing with high priced items that you cannot collect yourself.

We recommend http://www.escrowaustralia.com.au when purchasing high priced items.

Other Trading Tips:

  • Ask the seller detailed questions about the item. Make sure you clearly understand about any possible flaws or faults it may have.
  • Be especially careful when dealing with distant sellers. Remember, if buying highly priced items, airfares are very competative these days and it would be a good idea to protect yourself and collect the item in person where possible.
  • Never send out an item until you are certain that the buyer's cheque has been cleared your bank.
  • Always use common sense. If a deal seems too good to be true, then it is most likely a scam.
