Hey Rochee,
What do you tink of the website now?? Do you think its any better??
I've been playing with the website for a couple of weeks now and though I won't echo Rochee's double crap comment, I'm not that impressed.
It looks good and seems to work well.
However, it is ssssslllllllllooooooooowwwwww. That in itself is a disincentive to use and while it isn't stopping me, it would work against a new visitor.
The editor for placing posts is, I'm afraid, appalling. It is far slower than I can type (I do like to see letters appear when I type them, not in delay) and to be honest, has no features that other, far faster and cleaner editors have. I have resisted the urge to post because of this single feature ... which means that you've missed out on the more lighthearted side of my character - this may be to the board's advantage however ... (where are the½ bloody smilies?)
There appears to be no way of editing posts once they are up. No-one gets things perfect the first time everytime and I am someone who likes to be able to fix up mis-spellings etc. As anyone who works for words as a living will tell you, you don't get every mistake on the first proof read and some of us like to fix those problems, not to mention when those errors give the reverse of what you mean (yes, someone today had to put up a second post to address just that).
There are other issues - for example, at the moment, I don't know if my paragraphs are going to come out with a single space between them or not. I'm just hoping that they do ... but what if I didn't want that space. (yes yes, I can do a preview, but why should I be forced to do one just to check how the editor works?).
Sorry, but this forum has the feel of being over engineered to make it look nice, to achieve some visual aim. That may not be the case, probably isn't to be honest, but that's the feel it has and the reality is that it is not as good as other board software available such as vBulletin. Like many American sports cars, it has the look but sadly lacks the performance. As my Dad would say, this place feels like it was designed by someone who doesn't have to use it. vBulletin does not look as flash, but works far faster, far better and has more usable features, and I choose that example for comparison because it just happens to be open in another window at the moment (insert smilie ... only you can't).
