Newbie at cycling

I’m currently looking around for a bicycle for commuting long distances and possible taking it off road! I’m a very petite 150cm so finding a bike that will suit me which doesn’t fall into the juvenile category is difficult!

However I definitely can’t afford a road bike at the moment so any recommendations for what bikes I should be looking at?

I'm after something light as well.

Hybrids perhaps?

Sounds like you would best do with a hard tail mountain bike. You can purchase an on road and off road wheel set or one wheel set with semislick tyres. I would like out on ebay or classifieds on http://www.mtba.asn.au/. At your size a road frame will be almost identical to an mtb frame anyhow.
